Saying versus Doing

Posted by WhipSawJim at 10:40 am. Filed under: General, Politics

My daughter came home from school the other day and told me what she’d learned in her 12th grade history class. Apparently they’re studying the election process and the current campaigns are good study examples for them. Apparently part of the learning process is “listening to what the candidates say and not what they’ll really do” though because she somehow got the idea that Barack Obama will cut someone’s taxes if elected.

The only way I can think of that she might’ve gotten this idea is if they’ve just covered the things the candidate has said and not his background or the things that he’s done, or digging deeper into what he’s said. Here are three ways that Barack Obama will raise everyone’s taxes:

  • Allowing the Bush tax cuts to expire. Barack can get political and “not entirely dishonest” and not mention this as raising taxes, but it has the same result. Some had indicated that allowing the Bush 2003 tax cuts to expire will double the tax bill of some folks earning between $30,000 and $50,000. I ran the math myself using the historical tables at IRS.GOV and found that my simple example of a single person earning $30,000 would see an increase of 4%. This took me five minutes to do, didn’t include a number of assumptions that I probably should’ve included and would’ve if I’d had more time, and probably wasn’t nearly as rigorous as it could have been. Still, a 4% increase ISN’T a “tax cut”, and $30,000 ISN’T “rich”.
Cap and Trade. In all fairness, both candidates are supporting the general idea of Cap and Trade. Cap and Trade is another way of saying, “Taxing Carbon Byproducts of Energy Use”. Most energy processes generate carbon as a byproduct of burning something- gasoline, coal, etc. Cap and Trade is a Houdini-esque “smoke and mirrors” process that tries to get folks to believe that if you tax the carbon pollutant being produced, you somehow reduce the pollution problem. This is utter nonsense, but that’s never mentioned by supporters of Cap and Trade. All you wind up with is a government with an insatiable desire for your money getting more of that drug it craves. Let’s not even get into the subject of “carbon credits” and folks like Al Gore who fly around in private jets suggesting that folks buy carbon credits to offset THEIR gas usage- never mentioning that he make money off the deal by owning a carbon credit company! Anyhow, as taxes go, some are considered by liberals to be “regressive”, meaning that they don’t in some way favor the lower income folks who must pay the tax either by exempting them, by using a sliding scale, etc. Cap and Trade would be truly regressive, since folks who earn more can afford better insulation for their homes, more advanced automobiles, and pay for solar and wind power source equipment. Poorer folks can’t, and thus would shoulder more of the Cap and Trade tax burden. I don’t think Barack has mentioned that…
Making Big Oil Suffer. On occasion, Americans love to hate and government plays on that. Creating divisiveness in America allows liberals to create a crisis and then a disenfranchised group suffering from the crisis the government just created. The William Banks character in the new A&E series “The Cleaner” calls it “freaking” the addict and describes it as “…starting a fire only I can put out.” Same difference so far. Anyhow, the liberals then “adopt” the disenfranchised group, promising to come to it’s rescue and thereby secure lasting power for liberals. Once the addict is back on his/her feet, William Banks leaves. The government never does. Oil companies have been easy targets for this kind of ‘manufactured hate’ since the oil crisis of the ’70’s and because they make fairly large profits when oil prices are high. Whenever liberals need to deflect attention from their lack of real action, they put their finger on Big Oil and push. Currently, we’re seeing this in a couple of different things. Liberals are promising to remove tax incentives that Big Oil has, they’re trying to keep republicans in the Senata from making it easier for Big Oil to drill for more oil and drive down our cost of gas, and they’re talking about a “windfall profits” tax on Big Oil that will be rebated to “the American people”. Let’s not forget who pays the taxes levied on corporations- WE do. Corporations don’t have someone working in the corporation who sees taxes increase and says, “Well, I guess I need to go somewhere and earn more to pay the higher tax bill.” No, the corporation passes along the tax to it’s consumers. If taxes are raised (or tax incentives repealed) the “unintended consequence” is that gas prices rise. What’s really happening here is that all are being charge more, the difference is going to the government, and the government (in its infinite benevolence) gives it back to SOME of the American people who paid it. Since it’s not going back to everyone, and not just being left in the pockets of the consumers to begin with, we can easily see that some of the tax will be absorbed by the “cost of government”- what we pay for government employees to take money from one person’s pocket and put it into someone else’s pocket. It would be much more efficient to just leave the money in the original consumer’s pocket, but the way this tax-and-selectively-rebate process is done (”take from everyone, give back to a chosen few”) is really a redistribution of wealth. This is Marxism, not Capitalism.
  • One of the definitions of “windfall” is, “Sudden, unexpected profit caused by events not controlled by the beneficial person or company.” Oil companies put their capital at risk every day to find oil deposits, drill for them, transport the oil, and hire, train, and accommodate oil workers (i.e., “create jobs”). For these “events”, oil companies earn around $.40 in profit from each gallon of gas. Various government entities get about the same amount- $.40/gallon- but do nothing to earn it. Now based on our definition of “windfall”, if someone is getting a “windfall” is it going to the oil company or to the government? I’m all for reducing windfall profits on gasoline, but I suggest that the way to do it is to cut the gasoline taxes and not bother the oil companies who are actually doing something to earn their profits.

My daughter didn’t say that she learned that Barack Obama is a Marxist. When I tried to explain, she wasn’t really interested in hearing what I had to say. I asked why she listened to her teacher and not me. I’ve been around awhile and really should have seen the answer coming- “Because, Dad, he’s my TEACHER. I have to listen to him.” Then she went out to a movie with her boyfriend.

I really admire teachers, and they have a tough job especially these days. Just the same, it would probably be good for us to remember that our kids are occasionally hearing less than the whole story at school. We need to step up as parents, provide the missing details and offer ourselves up as living examples of well-educated voters that dig deeper than the speeches and rhetoric. Oh, and if “do as I say, not as I do” EVER worked for YOU in parenting YOUR children, please let me know. I gave up that idea long ago but am always trying hard to keep an open mind.

May God continue to bless America.

    Not Just Another Joe

Posted by WhipSawJim at 9:53 am. Filed under: General, Politics

Liberals have been trying to find something to say about Sarah Palin. Naturally they’ll avoid confronting her on the actual issues, but making every effort to drag her through the mud seems like their best defense. After all, they have to be worried to death about this terrific VP candidate!

Liberals have said that this pick was no Maverick choice, and that a Maverick would have picked someone like Joe Lieberman (who used to be a democrat but turned independent when attacked because he didn’t support radical liberal agenda items he disagreed with). First of all, if Joe was such a great pick, why didn’t Barack Obama pick him? This would have been a great opportunity for Barack to put action behind his promise to “reach across the aisle” and work with folks outside the democrat party for chenge. Instead he chose an old-time beltway insider with a lobbyist in the family. That sounds like Obama pursuing “politics as usual” to me.

Sarah Palin fought against political corruption in her state, ran against an entrenched republican governor and beat him, and declined the “bridge to nowhere” earmark money. I love her statement, “If we need a bridge, we’ll build it ourselves.” That sounds like someone who stands strong! I like that.

I love Jimmy Carter. I’m embarrassed to have lived at a time when Americans elected him president, but that’s another story. When I get down on myself and think how I’ve messed up or said wrong things, I just think to myself, “At least I’m not Jimmy Carter”. Jimmy, who did well at the Naval Academy and became the first Naval Academy graduate to be elected president of the United States, embarrassed himself (again) by bemoaning Naval aviator John McCain for “milking” his time as a prisoner of war in Vietnam. Wow. What was he thinking? What I really love is that democrats will own his stupid remark by not doing the stand-up thing and demanding that he apologize for his insensitivity (the democrat party IS still the party of ’sensitivity’, right?). Jimmy also indicated that he hopes that the democrats will win a few more seats this coming November so they won’t need Joe Lieberman’s vote anymore. He’s apparently not good enough for them, but republicans were wrong for not selecting him for VP? I think Joe is a great guy. He knew he’d be beaten up by liberals for not sitting down and taking his punishment, for his beliefs, and for actually representing his constituents. It’s nice that his constituents saw through the politics and elected him as an independent.

May God continue to bless America. To all who’ve served our country or have family serving, “Thank you!”
    Have a great rest-of-your-weekend!

    Of Edwards and Men

Posted by WhipSawJim at 11:50 pm. Filed under: General, Politics

After several high profile denials and getting caught by the National Enquirer sneaking around a California hotel, John Edwards confessed to having an affair. His wife Elizabeth hasn’t commented as far as I’ve heard, and thus appears to have a level of character so far above John’s that it’s surprising to me that they ever got together in the first place. It’s my opinion that character is built through perseverance. Here’s yet another opportunity to build some character, Mrs. Edwards. Not that you haven’t been through enough already. Please keep Elizabeth Edwards in your prayers. Its hard for me not to think that she deserves a whole lot better than John.

It was nice that John thought to say that even though he’d had an affair with Rielle Hunter, he didn’t love her. Hmmm- its as if that makes it alright, or somehow minimizes his immorality. No, I’m becoming convinced that all vestiges of repentance are trained out of lawyers and politicians early in their careers. Since Edwards was both, I’m guessing it happened earlier to him. I’m sure he’d have lied again if he felt it would have been in his own selfish interests to do so, or if he felt he wouldn’t get caught. “Innocent until proven guilty, you know.” The man must’ve gotten his moral compass from a cereal box or gumball machine. I’ve been in enough bars to know that a sizable percentage of men are complete pigs, but Mr. Edwards has plumbed new depths in this regard. C’mon, guys! I’m getting sick of apologizing for the lack of leadership, moral fiber, backbone, values and personal restraint I’ve seen in us lately.

That this man so obviously devoid of common decency and moral fiber could have so recently had folks supporting him as a candidate for the Presidency of the greatest country on the face of the planet mystifies me. I’ve heard several politically knowledgeable people mention today- and with certainty- that Mr. Edwards’ political career is over. Really? Can I count on that? Since we’re dealing with a lawyer here I’d prefer to have it in writing, but what took so long? I’m heartened that we’d be about done thinking this man is fit to lead, but geez didn’t the signs start showing up a few years back? I’ve never had anyone accuse me of having an affair. It’s partly because I’ve never had one, but I think it’s also because I try to behave in such a way that nobody who knows me would even start to believe claims like this. In Edwards’ case, one of his associates (Andrew Young) claims he’s the father of the baby, though Edwards’ (surprise?) denies it. “Yeah, right, John. We believe you THIS time.”

By the way, this isn’t about democrats. Being something of an aviation enthusiast, I’m still smarting over the Duke Cunningham bribery issue over in California. I still feel like one of my heroes betrayed me. A highly decorated Naval aviator and the only Ace of the Vietnam War, Cunningham sold his TOP GUNs for WAY too cheap in my opinion. It shouldn’t be about “party values”, it should be about values that take precedence over political parties. If we can’t rise above the lies, political nonsense and money-grubbing power trips, we’re not fit to lead. I hope Nancy Pelosi is listening (OK, ‘reading’, but ‘listening’ sounded better to me).

I’m totally in love with Michelle Malkin, and finally get the opportunity to gush a little, blush a little, and say that she has some excellent info on her blog about this stuff:
    Culture of Corruption, GOP Edition
John Edwards ‘fesses up, sort of

May God continue to bless America- even those of us who are incredibly idiotic miscreants.

Pelosi Urging Liberals to Back Drilling?

Posted by WhipSawJim at 11:58 pm. Filed under: Politics

Remember back in November of 2006, when Nancy Pelosi- still reeling from the shock of becoming the new Speaker of the House- pledged that the new democrat-controlled Congress would embrace bipartisan cooperation (if not, here’s a refresher)? Well it was interesting to read that she might let a few at-risk democrats give the appearance of doing just that!

I read an article in CommonDreams (the Politico has good stuff on this too) that Mrs. Pelosi is telling democrat members of the House that they will be allowed to vote FOR offshore oil drilling when the Congress reconvenes if it’ll help them win their next elections. The plan is to basically promise voters the change (once again) that she promised back in 2006, then wait until after the November elections. At that point, Mrs. Pelosi expects to have a democrat-controlled House and Senate, and a democrat President to work with. None of the current House democrats will have to follow through on their promises, and they’ll be able to advance her kooky “save the world” agenda. Nice. It’s actually a pretty smart idea, though completely disingenuous and disgusting. Southchild has a really good summary of the recent energy shenanigans on the Hill, and Chrisy58 also had some great things to say on the topic.

    Call to Action:
As November approaches, please keep in mind that elections have consequences. Go out and VOTE! If you really WANT drilling and lower gas prices, make sure to vote for someone who’ll actually honor their promises. A politician who has a track record of opposing such things, but who has suddenly become the best friend of his constituency, may be suspect. If you don’t know who your US representatives are, you can find your Congressperson here and your Senator here. Call ‘em up and ask ‘em (OK, their staff- just as good usually) a few questions! Don’t let ‘em forget who’s payin’ ‘em! As Joe Bob Briggs used to say, “Without eternal vigilance, it could happen here!”.

God bless America (and Nancy Pelosi too)!

Who is The NY Times Trying to Warn?

I’m suspicious. By now most are familiar with the efforts of the NY Times to aid and abet the enemy.

In yet another disclosure of secret anti-terror activity on the part of the United States and cooperating allies, the NY Times seems to be, once again, working to defeat the U.S. in the war on terror.

But the curious thing is their interest in the movement of money to the terrorists. I wonder why this might be.

Could it be that folks associated with the NY Times are involved in sending money to the terrorists?

Could this be an effort to warn American leftists to be careful in how they send money to support the enemy?

Could this be an effort to tell those very prominent anti-Americans among us to cool it sending money to the terrorists; the trail to your door may be getting hot?

There is something suspicious going on here; more than meets the eye.

    “Insurgent Groups Mourn al-Zarqawi’s Death”

That’s the hilarious headline on Yahoo where an ABC retread runs the pro-terrorist news operation.

I wonder who else is mourning Zarqawi’s death? The Democrat Party maybe?

From the Yahoo headline it looks like the American media is mourning his death too.

I guess we took out one of the liberal’s generals.

And they wonder why we think they’re anti-American and pro-terrorist.

    Hilarious.

    Block Lucent Merger.

If you were upset about the Dubai ports deal, you should really be concerned about the recently announced Alcatel/Lucent merger.

Alcatel is a French company. Alcatel owns 9.5 % of Thales, Europe’s biggest defense electronics company. Alcatel is trying to expand its holdings of Thales. Lucent gets much of its business from the U.S. military structure, the only thing that’s kept Lucent afloat.

The French socialist government is one of the major players in trying to undermine and destroy the United States through the vehicle of the U.N. The French government is also one of the major players in the ‘being pushed under the rug’ oil for food program, a now disclosed program of massive corruption and payoffs to fuel the tyrannical regime of Saddam Hussein. This cozy relation with enemies of the U.S. has to be highly suspect.

For anyone to think that U.S. military secrets and communication protocol will be protected from getting into the hands of the enemies of the U.S. via the French is truly naïve.

Investment broker Charles Schwab is reporting via Reuters:

Lucent has a wide array of sensitive government contracts, including one for an advanced communications system for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, the Pentagon’s technology incubator, and the company also does work on laser communications, secure wireless systems and network security.

One complication could also be the fact that Caisse des Depots et Consignations, a French state-owned financial institution, holds about 4.12 percent of Alcatel and 4.22 percent in voting rights, according to a securities filing.

This is an inside spy job just waiting to happen. In fact, spying may be too strong a word. Secure information may be just a matter of observing what will be readily available to ‘connected’ executives. The French socialists despise this country. They are in bed with the corrupt establishment of the U.N. and their cronies. They are also curiously close to the Democrat Party in the U.S. vis-à-vis John Kerry and his comrades. (Remember it was in Paris that Kerry met with the communist leader of North Vietnam, then returned to undermine the U.S. war effort.)

And to add comfort and security to the deal…

Lucent Technologies Inc. , which has agreed to be acquired by France’s Alcatel , on Monday tapped three former Clinton administration national security officials to oversee a new subsidiary that will handle its sensitive U.S. government contracts.

It is interesting that only Clinton people are being tapped for this job. You can’t trust the Clinton people with national security. Remember they are the ones who gave rocket technology to the Chinese in exchange for campaign money. The Clinton folks are as corrupt as the French and in bed with this anti-U.S. element.

And to show you how informed Congress is:

Loren Thompson, Lexington Institute defense analyst with close ties to the Pentagon, predicted mounting questions about the merger, noting that most U.S. lawmakers were unaware until last week about the extent of Lucent’s classified work.

    The military is concerned:

He said military officials also had concerns as did Democrats, who have released a security agenda echoing Hunter’s effort to prevent outsourcing of critical infrastructure.
“A senior military officer told me just this morning how upset he was about the deal,” said Thompson.

To put it simply, the French cannot be trusted, especially with American military secrets.
They opposed the Iraq war because they were on the take. Saddam Hussein was paying them off. They were in his pocket and giving him needed information and cover. As of this writing we, the public, do not know how much of this French, U.N. game was to allow Saddam Hussein to move his weapons of mass destruction out of Iraq (most likely to Syria or Lebanon).

Chief executive of Lucent, Patricia Russo demonstrates why Lucent is doing so poorly:

Russo is slated to become CEO of the combined company when the merger closes. Russo said the agreement carried a $500 million fee “for both sides” in the event the merger falls apart.

Kind of like blackmailing stockholders and government officials.

And it’s a lousy deal for Lucent stockholders:

Under the terms of the deal, Lucent shareholders will receive 0.1952 of an ADS (American Depositary Share) of Alcatel for every common share of Lucent that they currently hold.

The deal values Lucent at about $3.01 per share, or slightly below its closing stock price of $3.05 on the New York Stock Exchange Friday.

    Some analysts also expressed caution:

“Lucent has been struggling for years to improve its profitability with little success,” Nomura said in a note on Monday. “We see significant risk of a merger that ends up destroying value.”

This is a bad deal all around for both Lucent shareholders and U.S. security.

It looks like Russo is more concerned with getting herself a cushy socialist French job than running a decent company and building value for customers and shareholders.

Block this Lucent deal. Here’s what you can do…

If you own shares of Lucent, vote “no” on the proposal.

If you own shares of a mutual fund that owns shares of Lucent, contact the fund manager(s) and tell them to vote “no.” If your mutual fund refuses then sell your shares and move your money to another fund that doesn’t hold Lucent or who will vote “no.” There are lots of good mutual funds. You don’t have to keep your money in a fund that doesn’t care about national defense.

Also contact your Congressman/woman and tell them to block this deal. Write President Bush as well.

This deal makes the Dubai ports deal look like a ‘happy meal’.

Media, Democrats Ignore Jill Carroll Torture, Forced Propaganda.

After running a barrage of headlines touting the anti-American, pro-terrorist forced words of Jill Carroll, the MSM goes silent when the truth is revealed.

The case of Jill Carroll is yet another example of the anti-American, hate Bush, terrorist loving position of the U.S. media. When Ms. Carroll was saying what the media wanted to hear it was like gold; it fit well their template for “news.”

But now that we learn that Jill Carroll was forced to say these things at the points of three machine guns and on the threat of death, the media headlines suddenly change the subject. Jill Carroll has merely “arrived in Boston.” How pathetic.

From Jill Carroll’s statement after safely in American hands…

During my last night in captivity, my captors forced me to participate in a propaganda video. They told me they would let me go if I cooperated. I was living in a threatening environment, under their control, and wanted to go home alive. I agreed.

Things that I was forced to say while captive are now being taken by some as an accurate reflection of my personal views. They are not.

I also gave a TV interview to the Iraqi Islamic Party shortly after my release. The party had promised me the interview would never be aired on television, and broke their word. At any rate, fearing retribution from my captors, I did not speak freely. Out of fear I said I wasn’t threatened. In fact, I was threatened many times.

Also, at least two false statements about me have been widely aired: That I refused to travel and cooperate with the US military and that I refused to discuss my captivity with US officials. Again, neither is true.

Clearly we can see that, when it comes to the liberal media, no torture is too bad when it is committed by their beloved terrorists. And murder? I guess it’s just all part of the struggle. (Remember Jill Carroll’s translator was murdered. She could only presume she was next.)

There’s no outrage. No calls for dearly loved investigations are heard; just the ho-hum of arriving home. There are no calls for crackdowns on nations that support such barbarism. It seems there is only disappointment. How could Carroll betray “our liberal cause” with the truth?

Let’s see what the socialist U.S. Democrat Party has to say about this torture.

Violence Pays. U.S. Bookstores Censor ‘Free Inquiry’ Magazine.

Looks like violence pays off. Borders and Waldenbooks won’t carry the upcoming issue of Free Inquiry because it carries the famous Muhammed cartoons. Why?

“For us, the safety and security of our customers and employees is a top priority, and we believe that carrying this issue could challenge that priority,” Borders Group Inc. spokeswoman Beth Bingham said Wednesday.

This is unbelievable. Does this mean that anytime someone doesn’t like what is published or produced they should start burning buildings and killing people? What a message! Maybe the Christians should start blowing up movie theatres and Hollywood studios. Is this insanity or what? Is this how we resolve things now in “civilized” societies?

Reports are coming in that Abdul Rahman, the former Muslim who embraced Jesus Christ, is being held in a safe location pending the outcome of his request for asylum.

L’Agence France-Presse (via Truth and Terrorism) is reporting that Rahman may be in a U.N. compound for his protection. Apparently the U.N. human rights commission is following this along with the Afghan human rights commission. It is good to see both these agencies weighing in on the side of sanity.

Will McDermott Be Removed From The Senate?

Posted by Taste of Liberty at 7:30 pm. Filed under: Politics

With the conviction of Democrat Senator Jim McDermott for illegally taping and distributing a conversation between Newt Gingrich and John Boehner the question naturally arises, “Will McDermott be removed from the Senate?”

Of course we know the answer is ‘no’ because Democrats rarely get held to account for their illegal behavior. Just ask Mr. Steele, the Republican from Maryland.

McDermott should go. To let him remain in the Senate sends a clear message that integrity and law abiding qualities don’t really matter in this country anymore, particularly when it comes to politicians. Laws seem irrelevant. Politicians do whatever they want. So they have to pay a fine. Big deal. While a large settlement ($700,000) it is probably peanuts to this man. I wonder how many will “contribute” to his “defense fund?”

It really is getting disgusting in this country. Laws are meaningless. Just ask all the illegal… yes illegal… immigrants. Don’t think they won’t be voting. And they will be voting Democrat. You can make book on that one.

    Michelle Malkin has more.

Afghan Christian Case Dismissed, Not Resolved.

As reports come in about the dismissal of the case against Abdul Rahman, the Afghan man who left Islam to embrace salvation in Jesus Christ, the case has hardly been resolved. The charges have been dropped under the auspices of “lack of evidence.” But the legal premise surrounding the case remains; that is anyone who chooses to abandon the fanaticism of Islam for Christianity is subject to death.

As Rep. Tom Lantos points out this kind of governmental tyranny is unacceptable.

“President Karzai has a tremendous opportunity at the moment because he’s now naming new members to the supreme court, and it’s absolutely critical that every single member he names be a civilized, moderate individual who understands that having death sentences passed on people who convert to Christianity is not acceptable in the 21st century, particularly not by a country which has been liberated by soldiers of the United States and other NATO countries, most of whom are Christian.”

It’s good to finally see at least one member of Congress speaking out about this. Let’s see if it will continue or if this is just some sort of political opportunism. (Sorry to be so skeptical, but that’s what the current political grandstanding is creating.) Anyway our hats off to Rep. Lantos for speaking directly and forcefully.

And thanks too, to President Karzai for his part in the release of Abdul Rahman. May you move to protect him from harm by those who still live in the mindset of murder and tyranny.

Abdul Rahman Case Dismissed in Afghanistan.

Citing a lack of evidence, the Afganistan court dismissed the case of Abdul Rahman, the former Muslim who became a believer in Jesus Christ.

But from early reports the case may not be over. WorldNetDaily notes

One official told the Associated Press the case had been returned to the prosecutors for more investigation, but Rahman would be released in the meantime.

“The court dismissed today the case against Abdul Rahman for a lack of information and a lot of legal gaps in the case,” the official told AP on condition of anonymity.

Meanwhile Rahman is still a prisoner and we will need to watch and see if this is just a sly effort to get his case out of the news.

Addition: Check out the video posted at AfghanTimes.com (h/t WorldNetDaily). Plus lots more from and about Afghan Christians on this site.

    Where’s Kofi? Ban Sharia Law!

Clearly one cause of the barbarity enveloping the world is Muslim Sharia law. In what appears to be a “Where’s Waldo?” move, Kofi Annan is AWOL when it comes to human rights violations against Christians in Muslim countries.

The case of Abdul Rahman is just one glaring example.

Of course we can offer lots of excuses for Kofi. After all he heads one of the most corrupt organizations in the world. He is apparently not interested in ending this corruption. Kofi, no doubt, loves the money passing through the hallowed halls by the East River. Kofi does speak out about human rights… that is when Jews are the perpetrators.

Kofi, here’s a suggestion for you. Any government that has Sharia law as its basis should be expelled from the U.N. No back door deals. No funneling cash to the violaters. No sham “oil for food” programs. Just a hard stand for human rights.

What do you say Kofi? What’s your take on Sharia law? Good or evil? Does it promote freedom and human rights or does it crush the souls of people? No waffling Kofi. No bob and weave. No shifting the subject.

Are you willing to abandon your love affair with totalitarianism? Do you believe in equal opportunity and freedom of conscience? Do you subscribe to the idea of personal choice when it comes to religious belief? Are you willing to give us more than lip service?

    Where’s Kofi?

    Hillary’s Been Skipping Sunday School.

Posted by Taste of Liberty at 8:19 am. Filed under: General, Politics

You gotta laugh. Hillary Clinton invoking the Bible as reason to oppose illegal immigration. Hillary even claimed Jesus was an illegal immigrant. Looks like Hillary has been skipping Sunday School (For the uninitiated, that’s where churches are supposed to be teaching the Bible.)

The facts are that Jesus went to extraordinary measures to be a legal immigrant.

Hillary, check out the book of Philippians.

Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, being made in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

What was the point of His death on a cross? It was to reconcile a rebellious, sinful creation to God. But in order for this sacrifice to reconcile you, you have to accept it and believe it; put your faith in Jesus to make your restoration complete.

So, Hillary, I know you are busy, but why don’t you sacrifice a little time to “study up” as we common folks might say. As Jesus said, “What good does it do you to gain the whole world and lose your very soul?”

Addition: You know, in thinking about it, Hillary has probably done a good thing. She has given the green light to invoking the Bible as a basis for opposing federal legislation or, in essence the converse, enacting legislation. Sounds like the founding fathers to me. Ah… I can see it now. Hillary, our founding mother.

Abdul Rahman Insane?? Is This Projection or What?

Looks like the Afghanistan government is heading for cover. They’re trying to declare Abdul Rahman insane so he doesn’t have to stand trial and the case gets dropped.

A Western diplomat in Kabul and a human rights advocate — both of whom spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter — said the government was desperately searching for a way to drop the case because of the reaction it has caused.

Michelle Malkin has a video of Abdul Rahman here. It’s worth a look.

But there is a big problem… folks who become believers in Jesus Christ are not insane. The insanity is with those whose religion sends their children as suicide bombers to kill and maim women and children. The insanity is those whose religion only keeps its adherents by force and fear and terror.

President Karzai, it is time to admit you are wrong. Killing people because they believe different from you is not only morally wrong it is also a violation of your own constitution. Sir, your judge is unqualified to hold his position. His thinking and action are archaic and barbaric. Hiding behind some face saving “insanity” rendering is ludicrous. You may think it will look good, but the reality is the world will see right through it.

And by taking such a course you will have demonstrated to the world who is really insane.

Stop the madness, the insanity if you will, that has become Islam. It is time to lead your country into the civilized world. Stand tall sir. The world is behind you. Free Abdul Rahman.

Update: The Times of London has picked up the story of Abdul Rahman.

    So is Mark Tapscott

He wants to know where all the libs are from Hollywood to the liberal Protestant denominations to CAIR.

Where are Hollywood and the Glitterati? Where are Barbara Streisand? Where is Cindy Sheehan? George Clooney? Sean Penn? All the rest of the intellectual elite of the entertainment world who think it their inherent right to instruct the rest of us on the virtues of tolerating everything from porn to persecution? Everything except the simple faith of one Christian man standing by himself in a Muslim nation.

    Right on Mark.

Campaign Underway To Save Afghanistan’s Abdul Rahman.

Abdul Rahman, the Afghan man who left the madness of Islam to embrace true peace in the name of Jesus Christ still stands condemned by a “judge” in Afghanistan.

Of course the “judge” in this case has already decided the outcome since he is still trapped in the archaic thinking of the 7th century Taliban. The evidence? Abdul Rahman possesses a Bible. It would be laughable if this brave man’s life wasn’t on the line.

Ah, but the “judge” in the case, with a deeply passionate understanding of tolerance, has this to say (via Junkyard Blog) …

“We will ask him if he has changed his mind about being a Christian,” Mawlazezadah says. “If he has, we will forgive him, because Islam is a religion of tolerance.”

Sorry “judge” but, as Junkyard Blog points out, that is totalitarianism.

Good chance they are torturing Mr. Rahman now to get him to recant.

Clearly the Muslims don’t believe what they claim to believe. Clearly they have no faith in the god they worship. If what they present is true then people would be flocking to Islam by choice. And the adherents would never want to leave. But that is not the case with Muslims. This is a religion that is propagated by force. It is a religious tyranny that only survives through fear, terror, and intimidation. That’s the point of this trial of Mr. Rahman. It is to make clear to everyone else not to dare consider leaving Islam.

Let me offer a challenge to the Muslim leadership around the world. Open up the marketplace of ideas. Let your people go. Let your captives choose without fear of death or torture. And we will see how appealing Islam is to the people. We will see its ‘truth.’

Everyone but the so-called mainstream media (with the exception of ABC) is picking up the story of Abdul Rahman.

Michelle Malkin has great coverage. International Christian Concern is appealing to the Afghan President.

And the campaign is underway to free Abdul Rahman. You can help here, here, and here.

Why not take a moment right now to pray for Abdul Rahman. Pray too for his captors that they may be graced with the light of truth. Jesus said, “You shall know the Truth and the Truth will set you free.” May God’s grace and His boldness give Mr. Rahman a testimony to his captors.
