Remember back in November of 2006, when Nancy Pelosi- still reeling from the shock of becoming the new Speaker of the House- pledged that the new democrat-controlled Congress would embrace bipartisan cooperation (if not, here’s a refresher)? Well it was interesting to read that she might let a few at-risk democrats give the appearance of doing just that!

I read an article in CommonDreams (the Politico has good stuff on this too) that Mrs. Pelosi is telling democrat members of the House that they will be allowed to vote FOR offshore oil drilling when the Congress reconvenes if it’ll help them win their next elections. The plan is to basically promise voters the change (once again) that she promised back in 2006, then wait until after the November elections. At that point, Mrs. Pelosi expects to have a democrat-controlled House and Senate, and a democrat President to work with. None of the current House democrats will have to follow through on their promises, and they’ll be able to advance her kooky “save the world” agenda. Nice. It’s actually a pretty smart idea, though completely disingenuous and disgusting. Call to Action:
As November approaches, please keep in mind that elections have consequences. Go out and VOTE! If you really WANT drilling and lower gas prices, make sure to vote for someone who’ll actually honor their promises. A politician who has a track record of opposing such things, but who has suddenly become the best friend of his constituency, may be suspect. If you don’t know who your US representatives are, you can find your Congressperson here and your Senator here. Call ‘em up and ask ‘em (OK, their staff- just as good usually) a few questions! Don’t let ‘em forget who’s payin’ ‘em! As Joe Bob Briggs used to say, “Without eternal vigilance, it could happen here!”.
