Iraqi Voter Turnout 27% Higher than U.S.
Iraqi voter turnout is estimated to have been close to 70%. This means that Iraqi voter turnout was 27% higher than the 55% turnout in the 2004 presidential election in the United States. It’s also double the typical turnout in the off year elections in the U.S.
Kellino takes the WaPo to task for trying to spin the elections negatively.
That 65% or more (according to forecasts) came out to vote to exercise democracy in dramatic fashion, reveals a “sobering reality” that the vote did not resolve lingering political disputes? Do these people even understand what Democracy is???
Even Ed, over at the Culture Wars, can see the positive nature of this news.
Are there problems? Of course there are. But yesterday was very hopeful and might indicate that, despite what I believe to be massive mismanagement of the war by our government, there is a reasonable chance that things may turn out well.
And Van Helsing adds:
Whoever wins in the Iraqi elections, it’s pretty clear who lost: the Democratic Party. That nefarious organization’s best efforts have been insufficient to prevent the Iraqi people’s steady march from tyranny toward democracy.
