An Atheist is Offended

Posted by Eric at 8:42 pm. Filed under: Randomly Interesting

Jason weighs in on the war on Christmas, and is offended by anyone who calls a Christmas tree a “Holiday Tree.”

BUT. . . invariably when the “War on Christmas” debate popps up, people ask for my position, as an atheist, on it.

So here it is. I DIG CHRISTMAS, I mean, I really, really dig Christmas. I like the cheesy lights, I like the fun, family oriented movies (although we don’t have any this year *frown*), I like Christmas sweaters on chicks, I like getting Christmas cards, I like the idea of putting a dying tree inside my house, wrapping it in lights, and trying to keep it from spontaneously combusting for a month as it dries out.

I also like Hanukkah, and the concept of the “Hanukkah Bush”, I like the idea of Kwanza (although honestly I have no real idea what it’s all about), I like the idea of Christmas carollers freezing their butts off going door to door singing off key. I even like the rampant consumerism and insane traffic at malls and department stores. I dig the chaos of the season in general.

I also like the Christmas “spirit” that puts more smiles on peoples faces and the random acts of kindness from total strangers. I like the Christmas stories and their messages of peace, love and joy. I like mistletoe and eggnog.

Ok, so do you get it now??? I’m and atheist and I DIG CHRISTMAS!!!!!!

So what’s the point of this post? Ok, well here it is.

Iraqi Voter Turnout 27% Higher than U.S.

Posted by Eric at 4:35 pm. Filed under: Politics, War / Terrorism

Iraqi voter turnout is estimated to have been close to 70%. This means that Iraqi voter turnout was 27% higher than the 55% turnout in the 2004 presidential election in the United States. It’s also double the typical turnout in the off year elections in the U.S.

Kellino takes the WaPo to task for trying to spin the elections negatively.

That 65% or more (according to forecasts) came out to vote to exercise democracy in dramatic fashion, reveals a “sobering reality” that the vote did not resolve lingering political disputes? Do these people even understand what Democracy is???

Even Ed, over at the Culture Wars, can see the positive nature of this news.

Are there problems? Of course there are. But yesterday was very hopeful and might indicate that, despite what I believe to be massive mismanagement of the war by our government, there is a reasonable chance that things may turn out well.

And Van Helsing adds:

Whoever wins in the Iraqi elections, it’s pretty clear who lost: the Democratic Party. That nefarious organization’s best efforts have been insufficient to prevent the Iraqi people’s steady march from tyranny toward democracy.

Should DDT Be Brought Back?

Posted by Taste of Liberty at 10:44 am. Filed under: Science

Here’s an interesting item and article on DDT and the environmentalist gang.

Population control advocates blamed DDT for increasing third world population. In the 1960s, World Health Organization authorities believed there was no alternative to the overpopulation problem but to assure than up to 40 percent of the children in poor nations would die of malaria. As an official of the Agency for International Development stated, “Rather dead than alive and riotously reproducing.”

And on the selective reporting of environmental issues from the American Thinker

Thus, we have a news media analysis of a government research project which concludes that “industrial pollution is suspected of posing the greatest health danger” in neighborhoods where blacks are 79% more likely to live than whites. We are not given the factual basis for these suspicions. We, in fact, are given no evidence to conclude that industrial pollution poses a greater health danger to the residents of these neighborhoods than to those of other neighborhoods. We do have rather stringent environmental protection laws to prevent harm from industrial and other pollutants. Yet the article never indicates they are inadequate or not being properly enforced. And, as usual, the AP article devolves into anecdotal, not scientific, reports to plump up this thin gruel. In sum, we have speculation on top of speculation which gets top billing because it has a highly charged minorities-as-victims-of- capitalism and the Bush- Administration- is- bad subtext.

But then the cat is out of the bag, so why would we be surprised?

Democrats Like Murtha Aiding the Enemy.

Posted by Taste of Liberty at 10:29 am. Filed under: War / Terrorism

Read this remarkable letter from David Bellavia, a much decorated Army veteran of the Iraq war, published by WorldNetDaily.

It certainly appears that members of the Democrat Party are actively sabotaging the American war effort. It seems they like emulating John Kerry’s treasonous activity during the Vietnam years. Yet these so-called politicians are allowed to remain in office and conduct themselves in a manner which aids and abets the enemy, a conduct which gets more of our troops killed as well as many Iraqi civilians.

The blood of our soldiers is on the hands of these Democrats and their accomplices in the media as they encourage the enemy to kill more.

Bellavia wants to set the record straight…

As rancor and hyperbole have reached its peak, we continue to be fed bastardized statistics and a complete denial that Iraq – according to al-Qaida intercepts – is indeed the front line in the War on Terror.

Commenting on the left’s template for war…

The template is simple: Pull out when the blood starts to flow (Somalia) and over commit when there is no chance of loss (Kosovo and Bosnia).

Like many Americans whose blood is starting to boil at the pro-terrorist Democrats, Bellavia is outraged…

On behalf of every veteran of Iraqi Freedom who has exchanged hot lead with this enemy, allow me to state: “Mr. Murtha you don’t know ‘Jack’ about the mujahadeen.”

My peers are not appreciative of the Sen. Kennedy and Kerry elitists who daily attempt to uncover mistakes made by this administration, while my brothers under fire bleed to death thousands of miles from their homes.

And on Murtha’s actions…

Voting against the immediate pull out of the troops and then carpet bombing every TV program that offers an invite by supporting Murtha’s ignorance is a political attack that is aiding the enemy.

Referring to the pontificating politicians, Bellavia continues…

Not one has borne witness to the extreme close quarter nature of this fight or commented on the tearful thanks from a deserving and proud people who need us to stay the course. Yet Rep. Murtha has the extreme audacity to call my peers “broken.”

And to the likes of the deceiving senators from Massachusetts, he adds…

…it must be stated: We are not “broken,” we have never “terrorized Iraqis in their homes” and we are most certainly not “living hand to mouth.”

Thank you Sergeant for standing up for America, risking your life to protect us, and in the process liberating millions who have heretofore lived under brutal oppression. The Democrats may like brutal oppression, but the majority of Americans support you. May God bless you for taking a stand.
