Dear Ford and GM,

Posted by Taste of Liberty at 9:01 am. Filed under: General

It’s about quality.

Over the years I’ve owned Ford and GM products. I’ve also owned the other guys’ vehicles from across the western waters. Hate to say it but I’ve done very little to the other guys’ vehicles in their journeys towards 200,000 miles.

On the other hand it seems your products have been plaqued by constant quality problems; transmissions, engine gaskets, windows that don’t work, computer malfunctions, just to name a few. Frankly I get tired of hassling with your service departments.

I love American cars and would love even more to buy them. However, I’ve reached the point where I won’t take a chance on your vehicles anymore. With prices reaching the obscene level, I need a vehicle that is reliable and will last. I spend a lot of time on the road. Dependablitiy is my number one concern. Second, to help you with your research, is the convenience of “living out of my car.” So the interior needs to be designed with that in mind.

I have concluded, a little tongue in cheek, that GM engineers must ride the bus. I’m not so sure they drive cars or ride in them much. Same for Ford.

So while you’re focusing on restructuring and job cuts and the mechanics of your organization, remember it is not the organization per se that is the issue. It’s quality. So whatever it takes, make ‘em top notch. You don’t need a million models. Make fewer and make ‘em the best. And don’t hype the quality if it isn’t there. We’re getting smarter than that.

With best wishes for a speedy recovery,

TOL
