Evangelicalism’s Faux-Finished Faith

Posted by Eric at 9:12 am. Filed under: Randomly Interesting

This article is an interesting read.

With mega-churches growing like Jack’s beanstalk, the new American mind-set of evangelism is, “Get’em into the church building, put on a good show, don’t offend them, give them some Starbucks, and BAM! They’ll get saved.” After all, we must be “all things to all men.” But what happens when we become everything to the world? Christians become everything and nothing.

What is the fruit produced from this faux-finished faith known as evangelicalism? We have huge churches catering to the lowest common denominators of culture. We have a lack of theological integrity because we don’t want to offend anyone with our doctrine. We have turned the body of Christ into something that feels and runs more like a corporation than an intimate community where families actually care about each other. We measure success like a business; if our numbers are growing then everything is good.

And this…

The church has forgotten what it means to equip the Christian mind. It is more concerned with putting on productions than putting out disciples. The end result is a bunch of whiney adults who don’t like the way the power-point presentation looked last week, or complain that the coffee bar needs to have more flavors to choose from. We have successfully dumbed down the Word of God. Intimacy with the Almighty is not something we strive for anymore. We scream “Relevance!” and sacrifice the minds Christ has given us.

The Christian life is deeper than your iPod play list…

Marriott: Sleeping with the Enemy?

Posted by Eric at 7:33 am. Filed under: War / Terrorism

Pamela, guest blogging over at LBC, has called for a boycott of Marriott.

From WND:

The Georgetown Marriott Conference Center rejected a “terrorism” symposium onthe grounds that the sponsoring organization was too controversial and the venue inappropriate for this type of forum. Concurrently, another Marriott Hotel in the Washington area is hosting the Council on American- Islamic Relations’ annual conference and participating as a panelist at the gala will be an alleged co-conspirator of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.

The following statement was issued by Marriott:

Due to the high density of Muslim students on campus, we’re afraid of the potential for violent protests, injured employees and damage to the facility.

Joe Kaufman adds:

What does this say about our current state of affairs, when one of the largest American corporations is willing to silence an ally and give voice to the enemy? It says that we, as a nation, are on a dangerous path that only starts with appeasement, yet ends in our destruction. If the Marriott is a test case for the future consciousness of America, then we can be assured that we will have no future.

And Pamela at LBC summarizes this way:

If the Marriott Corporation wants to operate in America, make money in America, be free to pursue their profits in America, enjoy the freedom of America - then don’t stand in the way of the very people putting their [lives] on the line to make that happen.

Jeffrey Epstein, president of PTF, adds:

I am deeply troubled by the realization that a major American corporation could fear reprisal from enemy sympathizers, within our borders, during a time of war. This situation certainly begs the question as to what degree our national security has already been compromised

More at Dhimmi Watch and Right, Wing-Nut. Lots of discussion at LGF.

Atlas provides contact info for Marriott here.

A commenter over at Atlas Shrugged has a bit of a different perspective.

I don’t understand why you call for a boycott of the Marriott Hotel chain for refusing to rent conference space to a group based on the fact that the corporation fears violence and damge to it’s corporate property at the hands of Islamists who may choose to react to the agenda of the conference organizers.

I applaude Marriott for publicly acknowleging that they realize Islamists are a dangerous group as a whole and are capable of inflicting great damage at the slightest provocation.

I also applaude Marriott Corporation for putting the safety of its employees ahead of renting rooms and conference space.
