While the media gets caught once again truly staging a t.v. event to distort reality (see Myopic’s review of Michelle Kosinski), Sgt. Ron Long, an actual participant in the Bush conference with the soldiers, communicates the truth of what actually happened. It seems the media is trying to deceive the people again by calling the Bush conference call a “staged event”.

But what is really revealing and absolutely right on is this from Sgt. Long…

I know that we are fighting here, not only to preserve our own freedoms, but to establish those same freedoms for the people of Iraq. It makes my stomach ache to think that we are helping to preserve free speech in the US, while the media uses that freedom to try to RIP DOWN the President and our morale, as US Soldiers. They seem to be enjoying the fact that they are tearing the country apart.

The question I was most asked while I was home on leave in June was, “So…What’s REALLY going on over there?” Does that not tell you something?! Who has confidence in the media to tell the WHOLE STORY? It’s like they WANT this to turn into another Vietnam. I hate to break it to them, but it’s not.

Keep communicating. We’ll help in getting the truth out that the media doesn’t want us to know. You are the kind of people who make this country work. The battle with the enemy is not only over there but here at home too. Thanks for the ammunition. We’re happy to engage the battle here on the home front.

A week ago, Mr. Drezner was denied tenure. Some have speculated it was due to his blogging. A week later, he writes how thankful he is to have little kids when he’s having a bad day. In “things I’ve learned since…”

3) It’s good to have small children. Despite the occasional impulse to curl up into a fetal position and sleep most of the day, children do not really understand the concept of “having a bad day.” So you have no choice but to go about your day, which is a useful check against lethargy. Plus, without getting too mushy about it, a hug from the one-year old is worth a hell of a lot more than the collective opinion of my tenured colleagues.

Here’s an interesting read. Michael Dorf writes an article he titles “A Crash Course in Constitutional Law for Harriet Miers–and Everybody Else.”

Over the weekend, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Arlen Specter said that, with no prior judicial experience and a background primarily in business law, Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers “needs a crash course in constitutional law.”

Well, I am prepared to offer just such a course–for Miers and any would-be nominees among my readers. Pay attention, because there will be a test.
