Drudge Wasn’t Listening

Posted by Eric at 9:54 pm. Filed under: General

Drudge has a “scoop” on something that is in the transcript. This is what Drudge is splashing right now on his front page:

Biden To Roberts: ‘You’re The Best’

Exclusive Drudge sources in the U.S. Senate’s Hart Building heard Democrat Sen. Joe Biden say to Judge John G. Roberts in a private conversation on the hearing room floor: ‘You’re the best I’ve ever seen before the committee’…

Right. Exclusive Drudge sources, and everyone else who watched the hearing. Here is a quote from the transcript (and yes, it’s a “rush transcript” but I watched the hearings, he said it).

BIDEN: Now, one of the things that’s been amazing is you are one of the best witnesses that I think has come before this committee, and I’ve been here 30-some years. And is that you’ve convinced the folks who share Senator Brownback’s view that you’re going to be just right for them, and you’ve convinced the folks that share Senator Kennedy’s view that you’re going to be just right for them.

So much for Drudge’s exclusive scoop I guess.

Oh well, who can blame him for not watching all 18 hours of the grueling repitition of “I’m not asking you to comment on a specific case, but can you give me your views in this specific case?”

Love America First sums up Biden’s tactic this way:

Biden demanded that Roberts tell him his opinion on specific issues, saying that because senatorial candidates must tell the public their opinion on various issues, judicial candidates should do likewise. Roberts instructed Biden that judges aren’t up for reelection, so no, the analogy does not work.

On other fronts…

Lincoln Logs wants him to be president instead of Chief Justice, stating:

he is so smart, genial, and quick-thinking it is a waste to put him on a bench with Ginsburg, Souter and Stevens.

Sure, it was said tongue in cheek, but I have to mention that other than the fact that the president gets to nominate Supreme Court justices, arguably he is not as influential.

The Last Best Place thinks that Bidens remark sums up the hearings. Conservative Law agrees with Biden too.
