It’s Raymond Reggie.

Posted by Eric at 10:11 am. Filed under: General

It looks like the mystery witness in the Clinton case is Raymond Reggie, senator Kennedy’s brother-in-law.

Power Line had the scoop yesterday, and the New York Sun has the story today, as does the Times-Picayune. Powerline has more today.

Indiana to Compromise on Time Zone Change

Posted by Eric at 8:08 am. Filed under: General

Since we can’t decide whether to do Central or Eastern, it looks like there will be some compromise reached.

Maybe Eastern + 30 minutes?

Sen. Allen Paul, R-Richmond, a rules committee member, said he could move DST out of committee, but still would not support it on the floor. Rules action is expected Monday.

Honestly, people just don’t want to change their clocks,” he said.

If Time Were Fair and Balanced

Posted by Eric at 8:02 am. Filed under: General

You’ve seen the cover photo of Ann Coulter that was done with a fish-eye lens… well she has retaliated.

Hillary on Time Mag

(You can see the original here)

And the Time Mag picture editor…

Maryanne

Seems Time doesn’t appreciate it when it’s done to them.

Dear Ms. Coulter,

I represent renown photojournalist David Burnett who licenses his work through our photo agency, Contact Press Images, an agency he helped found nearly 30 years ago. You are featuring his copyrighted photographs of TIME magazine photo editor Maryanne Golon on your web site and in addition, have altered the aforementioned image. According to our records you do not have permission to make use of these images nor have you paid fees in connection with their use. Had these photos been licensed properly you would have been made aware that we do not permitted the alteration of our photographs under any circumstance.
We ask you to remove these images at once and be in touch with our office regarding the payment of fees for the use on your website.
Sincerely -
Jeffrey D Smith
Exec. Director

Her response? “AT LEAST I DIDN’T DO SOMETHING REALLY MEAN LIKE PUT IT ON THE COVER OF TIME MAGAZINE.”

Jasper Rine’s laptop

Posted by Eric at 8:00 am. Filed under: General

If you haven’t seen it yet, here’s the transcript of Prof. Rine’s UC Berkeley lecture where he scares the pants of the laptop thief.

The original webcast is here, but you have to skip to 48:50 to see the fun part.

Boing boing has other links.

Via Michelle.

Top 10 reasons not to steal your prof’s laptop. The Political Teen is scared, you can bet others are too.

UPDATE: Brandon calls the Professor’s bluff.

UPDATE 2: While it is now pretty well known that Prof. Rine was stretching the truth a bit in order to get his laptop back, check out this quote on the Berkeley Distinguished Teaching Award site:

Facts just aren’t that important,” says Jasper Rine, professor of genetics in the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology. He recognizes the blasphemous nature of his view, but points out that approximately 300 new papers are published in just his research field every week. “Faced with growth in biological knowledge of this magnitude, I have wrestled with how one is to teach modern and useful biology.”

Lex Icon has some thoughts. Universally Dubious notes that Jasper Rine is not going to be out of town after all. FullosseousFlap has filed it under Humor/Morons.

Free Speech in School?

Posted by Eric at 7:53 am. Filed under: General

2 Winona High students put free speech to the test:

Two Winona High School students have found themselves in hot water with school officials.

Why? Because after Carrie Rethlefsen attended a performance of the play “The Vagina Monologues” last month, she and Emily Nixon wore buttons to school that read: “I [heart] My Vagina.”

“We can’t really find out what is inappropriate about it,” Rethlefsen, 18

So they’re turning to T-Shirts.

Craig Clancy’s Bathroom Break

Posted by Eric at 7:50 am. Filed under: General

Ouch.

A police spokesman says an off-duty officer was at a San Antonio auto auction house Wednesday when nature called.

Officer Craig Clancy strolled to the appropriate facility and was lowering his trousers when his pistol fell from his waistband. When Clancy fumbled for the falling firearm, it went off — twice.
