Eric, Teri is not attempting to talk. She is braindead. Period. She died 15 years ago even with the valient attempts made by her loving and caring husband to revive her. She died.
Now what her selfish, self centered, self serving parents are doing to Teri’s shell of a body is beyond contempt and beyond cruel. These people have gone beyond the pale and have displayed her brain dead body in the most indecent ways.
This private matter has now become a wreck on public hiway for all to gawk at as they slowly drive by. Even the slime who really got the ball rolling on this display, Tom Delay, withdrew life support for the very same reasons that Mr. Schiavo did. But for that slime and for millions of others who have suffered the same tragedy and the same kind of decision. It was the humane thing to do.
No Teri is not attempting to talk as her shameful father has declared. She is only attempting to die with some dignity.

Mr. Pigboy, with reference to your comment and with all due respect, I’m afraid you have your head in the sand. Such bigotry against an innocent, responsive, handicapped woman is really a very sad thing in our enlightened society. Dying of starvation and dehydration when you are clearly aware of your surroundings is not death with dignity. It is torture and inhumane. As to Michael’s loving care, it is clear he did everything he could to deny her treatment and rehabilitation. Read the affidavits of the nurses for starters. Also, with regard to your Tom DeLay comment, the two cases are not similar. Drudge splashed it and it made big emotional headlines for a day or two, but the cases are night and day. I would suggest you start here in your research if you are truly interested.
The DeLay and Schiavo cases are worlds apart, for heaven’s sake, and it is patently unfair to compare the two. DeLay’s father’s had suffered broken ribs and a brain hemorrhage; he needed a tracheotomy and ventilator to assist his breathing; his kidneys failed; multiple infections ravaged his body. Unlike Terri Schiavo, he was in a state of steady deterioration and at death’s imminent doorstep within days of his accident.
On the Schiavo case, I was tempted to not even respond as it’s clear you have not done much research on this, simply by the fact that you assert she is “brain dead.” (However, I will respond to ensure that your misconceptions are not passed on to readers who have not spent much time researching the case). Even her husband does not say she is brain dead. The issue is whether she is PVS, and as TOL points out above, there are numerous eyewitness and caregiver affidavits that indicate she was responsive and not vegetative. If you haven’t seen them, you may not have dug very deeply, as a simple google for Terri Schiavo Affidavits will provide you with lots of information. Hopefully this response will clear up a few of your misconceptions.

You gotta be kiddin. ‘Teri Schiavo Affidavits’ what a bunch of crap. They are right up there with that famous ‘Nobel Nominated’ doctor Hemmesfer. Anyone can do either, just because a Congressman ‘nominates’ someone to the Nobel Commision doesn’t make it a valid nomination at all and just because someone makes an internet affidavit does not make it true. One thing for sure, you wingnut wrongdoers will say anything right now and do anything now to support this inhumane treatment of Teri’s body.
As far as Tom Delay taking his father off his support systems it is okay for you nuts. The fact is using your silly reasoning as long as he were alive there was a chance to live and Delay took that away from him. And don’t give me that crap about what his Doctor said. I could have, in a second, found a Doctor to disagree with him in a second. Of course like the Doctors you site they would have had my best interests in mind rather than Mr. Delays.
I trust our court system. It has worked for 15 years and has given Mrs. Schiavo the most reviews of any case like hers. It is sad that she died 15 years ago. Even her loving husband did not believe it for years himself going to the extreme taking her to California for experimental operations to install a device in her cranium that he and others thought would stimulate her brain and bring her back. It did not work. Unfortunately.
Now the only thing left is a shell of a body that her parents shamelessly display on television.
