Democrats Move to Kill Terri Schiavo
Surprise, surprise! Looks like the Leftist Democrats are planning to stop legislation which would attempt to protect the life of Terri Schiavo.
According to the Associated Press, Oregon Democrat Congressman Earl Blumenauer is attempting to round up opposition to the bill. I wonder if Blumenauer has even looked at the details surrounding this case. If not, he needs to get informed.
Meanwhile President Bush is cutting short his weekend in Texas and flying back to Washington so he can be there to sign the bill.
What a contrast; the Democrats for death, the Republicans for life. Does it get any more obvious as this case progresses. Terri is exposing everybody. Hang in there Terri.
UPDATE: It looks like Democrat Congressman Robert Wexler from Florida has joined the effort to kill Terri. His contact information is here and here along with Blumenaur’s. Phone calls and emails to these two Congressmen are urgently needed along with calls to all Democrat Senators. Senators’ info is here.
UPDATE 2: Dawn Eden elaborates:
While the Senate has unanimously passed a bill that would save Terri Schiavo’s life, some Democratic congressmen have forced the House to delay a vote until after midnight tonight. People should be asking: Why?
Paul at Wizbang did a bit of liveblogging. Including this:
Barney Franks gets up and whines that one of the Republicans was playing doctor on TV. Said Republican, Phil Gingrey of Georgia, got back up to say that he didn’t know if he was on TV or not… But that he was not “playing doctor” because he indeed was one. Franks was a tad deflated.
It seems that some Democrats — not all, as some had agreed to support this bill — have come squarely down on the side of euthanasia. Because we need to be clear on this point: Terri wasn’t dying until they pulled her feeding tube out. She spent the last five years in a hospice, not a hospital. Hospices take care of terminally-ill patients and do not provide extraordinary life support functions that hospitals do, especially in Terri’s case. Terri could easily live another 20-30 years with her disability, even without therapy.
And the Anchoress weighs in:
Since then we’ve watched the Democrats become reactionaries, mired, unwilling to move from the status quo, on any issue.
And we’ve watched the Republicans become revolutionaries.
With this action, the reversal is complete. The Democrats, who have no problem pulling children from their parents at the slightest hint of abuse, even if the parents are NOT abusive, are suddenly against government intervention; they do not like the government intervening to help parents save their daughter’s life in the face of a husband’s suspicious insistance.
The Republicans, who normally don’t like government intervening into private matters, feel compelled to do so, because there is every indication that this woman has not been given a fair shake, diagnostically, therapuetically or otherwise.
The Democrats, concerned about saving caribou in Alaska, have no concerns about saving a human being in Florida. Concerned about starving people all over the world, they contend that Terri’s starvation will be peaceful and easy.
The world is upside down.
And Kentucky Packrat has more commentary:
The ultimate expression of this has been a quote I’ve heard often during the Terri Schiavo case: “I wouldn’t want to live that way”. Of course you wouldn’t. I don’t want to be brain-damaged either. Number 1 son didn’t want to lose half a lung to pneumonia. My mother-in-law didn’t want to die from ovarian cancer. TheAnchoress’ brother-in-law S didn’t want to die a lingering death. John Paul has no desire to slowly deteriorate from Parkinsons.
Job didn’t want to be tested by Satan either, but when God answers Job, God doesn’t justify Himself. He doesn’t justify Himself to us either. Instead, there are times in our lives when we will have to do things, be places, or even give up things we hold dear (even our health) because of God’s plan for us.
By interfering in God’s plan by unnaturally ending a life (and yes, withholding food is ending a life) is the ultimate rejection of God’s will. I don’t know why Terri Schiavo is in the condition she’s in. She may be there from abuse, or a potassium imbalance. She may be PVS, or “simply” severly brain-damaged. It might be that Terri will never return to even a resemblance of her former life. Nonetheless, what does it say about us when we are willing to throw her life away because she is no longer convenient to her husband or society.

Why not let her die? Death isn’t such a horrible thing. It would be a gift to be released from a life like that.
