You have to hand it to Dawn Eden for coming up with one of the more clever headlines of the week (month!?). She links to this Reuters Report, and headlines her blog:
Two Hundred and Eighty-Eight Sex Partners? That’s Two Gross
On a more sobering note, how should the chain of multiple sex partners among teenagers be broken? Well, according to the wisdom of “the lead researcher, sociologist James Moody,”
“Anything that limits that and restricts the flow of body fluids between people would help.”
Now that’s comprehensive sex education.

In my previous post, I mentioned you learn something new every day. Well, today I learned not one, but two highly useful (?) bits of knowledge.
This time, it’s via BuzzMachine, that 80% of US Paper Currency has traces of drugs on it.
Snopes lists some sources that seem to indicate this may in fact be a credible statistic, though not nearly as shocking as it seems upon first hearing it.

Well, you learn something new every day.
Blackfive posted a picture a few days ago of a “Specialist Lacourse” showing the POW hand signal for coercion in a picture with John Kerry.

I wondered, “is he making up this POW hand signal stuff”… and commenced to search Google, since, of course, “if it’s on the internets it must be true.” And I stumbled across this picture:

Terri Schiavo’s case is back in the news.
Ongoing updates on her site.
Florida Loses Appeal, yesterday.
The Supreme Court refused Monday to reinstate a Florida law passed to keep a severely brain-damaged woman hooked to a feeding tube, clearing the way for it to be removed. How soon that would happen, however, was unclear.
Thrown Back has a good summary of the remaining issues pending before the courts in her case.

Drudge is quoting a “Fox News spokesperson” as saying:
“Ted is understandably bitter having lost his ratings, his network and now his mind”
Too funny.
Of course, the context is that Ted Turner compared Fox News to Hitler.

Check out this Reuters story:
Web search company Google has hired the lead engineer of the Firefox Web browser, fueling speculation that Google will create its own version of Firefox to take on Microsoft’s dominant Internet Explorer.
Get Firefox here, or read about it gaining market share on Microsoft’s Internet Explorer.
UPDATE: Just found Ben Goodger’s blog. He states:
As of January 10, 2005, my source of income changed from The Mozilla Foundation to Google, Inc. of Mountain View, California. My role with Firefox and the Mozilla project will remain largely unchanged, I will continue doing much the same work as I have described above - with the new goal of successful 1.1, 1.5 and 2.0 releases. I remain devoted full-time to the advancement of Firefox, the Mozilla platform and web browsing in general. I’m sure you have many questions. While I will be spending more time at Google, I will work out of the Mozilla Foundation offices regularly as the need arises. For all questions regarding Google, I ask that you contact Google directly, rather than myself.

I’m skeptical. But Captain Ed posted this morning that Kevin McCullough is asserting:
Now, Kevin sees that Oregon has embarked on an ambitious fun-raising drive, and thinks that the university known as the Berkely of the North wants to establish its leftist credentials in order to boost donations:
Interesting coincidence, at least.
(If you’re not familiar with the issue, see the previous post here)

Wow, this is cool:
Google introduced late Monday a prototype of a service to search TV programming, an anticipated move to broaden its search franchise for broadcast.
As previously reported, the Mountain View, Calif.-based company has been quietly developing Google Video, an engine that lets people search the text of TV shows. Immediately, the service will scour programming from PBS, Fox News, C-SPAN, ABC, and the NBA, among others, making broadcasts searchable the same day.
They’re doing this using closed-captioning text. Pretty slick.

If you haven’t seen it yet, check out Michelle Malkin’s “exclusive” on the ownership of the plane forced down in Texas today.
She connects some dots between Alpha Tango Flying Services, Abdul Hakim Marud, Afzal Hameed, Alyce Taylor, Saudi Arabian Flight Students, Al Qaeda, Manila, and the Chinese illegal aliens hype in Boston last week.

Instapundit links to Alphecca, who reports that Bloomberg Radio says:
Violent crime in the U.K. rose 6 percent in the three months through September, led by an increase in alcohol-fueled offenses and gun crime, police figures show.
Violence against the person, excluding sexual offences, rose 7 percent from the year-earlier period, U.K. Home Secretary Charles Clarke said, citing police statistics, while firearms offences increased 5 percent in the year through September, to 10,670 incidents. Total crime across the U.K. fell 6 percent from the year-earlier period, the figures show.
“Violent crime remains our biggest challenge,'’ said Clarke at a London press conference, his first on crime figures since he took over from David Blunkett in December. “It’s a difficult task, but we are going in the right direction. It will be my number one priority to drive down violent crime.'’
“… only outlaws have guns …”
There are certainly lots of books on the subject.

From WRAL.com:
Weyco Inc., a health benefits administrator based in Okemos, Mich., adopted a policy Jan. 1 that allows employees to be fired if they smoke, even if the smoking happens after business hours or at home.
Company founder Howard Weyers has said the anti-smoking rule was designed to shield the firm from high health care costs. “I don’t want to pay for the results of smoking,” he said.
Good business sense? Or overstepping bounds?
Further context:
Chief Financial Officer Gary Climes estimated that 18 to 20 of the company’s 200 employers were smokers when the policy was announced in 2003. Of those, as many as 14 quit smoking before the policy went into effect. The company offered them help to kick the habit.

There’s buzzing about this NY Post Article splashing super skimpy prom dresses [warning, potentially offensive picture]. Blogging from Michelle Malkin, Ace of Spades, Palm Tree Pundit. Here’s the actual product site.
I’m not posting the picture here, but it’s shocking, and what’s even more shocking is that it’s supposedly one of the company’s “top 20 dresses nationwide.”
Palm Tree Pundit says it best:
He makes a good point, though. Who are the daddies, and where are they? They certainly don’t appear to be protecting their daughters, which is a large part of the daddy job description, in my view.
Girls who will wear prom dresses like the one in the link above are in for a world of heartache, I’m afraid. Their hearts, as well as their bodies, are in danger. Dads, please, please, don’t let your daughters dress like hookers.
And you thought Trashy Clothes were On the Way Out.
Michelle said months ago: Be “prudes.” Be “rude.” Be “shrill.” And never, ever feel ashamed for asking out loud: Have you no shame?
UPDATE: Wizbang says the New York Post took a picture of the model with the dress on backward, with photos to back it up.

Interesting. Hopeful sign? Or a token gesture?
Last week, after continued complaints from members at local and state levels, Mr. Weaver announced that the headquarters would be open to union members participating in tomorrow’s March for Life, an event protesting the Supreme Court’s 1973 Roe v. Wade decision that overturned state laws prohibiting abortion.
Gary Allen, president of the Ohio Education Association (OEA), urged Mr. Weaver to host pro-life union members who come to Washington as a matter of “fairness,” according to documents obtained by The Times.
…
“This is a historic moment for all pro-life members of the NEA,” said Sissy Jochmann, a teacher near Pittsburgh and head of the NEA Conservative Educators Caucus.

The New York Times today splashes a story headlined “Senator Clinton Speaks of ‘Common Ground’ on Abortion.”
Obviously there’s a lot of political posturing going on here, but one thing really jumped out at me. She said (according to Drudge’s quote) that abortion is a:
“sad, even tragic choice to many, many women.”
Now tell me. Why is it tragic? If it’s not a child, but a choice, why is it tragic? If it’s just a lump of tissue, why is it tragic? In fact, why is it even sad?
Here is another quote from Hillary, 10/8/2002.
I’ve met women who faced this heart-wrenching decision toward the end of a pregnancy. Of course it’s a horrible procedure. No one would argue with that
What is so horrible about it? Ted Kennedy reminds us that it’s just a
“personal and private reproductive decision.”
Kerry:
“I believe that choice is a woman’s choice. It’s between a woman, God and her doctor.”
Or, the most amazing yet, from Planned Parenthood attorney Beth Parker (via Dawn Patrol):
Most [cases] involved a patient who objects or didn’t even know police had taken the fetus, which Parker contends is part of the woman’s medical records [Emphasis mine]
If it’s just “tissue” or “medical records” or “private” then why would Hillary Clinton call it “sad”, “tragic”, “heart wrenching” and “horrible”… ?
And I can’t resist adding this final note of wisdom, from Ronald Reagan, as quoted in the NYT on 9/22/1980:
I’ve noticed that everybody that is for abortion has already been born.
UPDATE: Michelle Malkin makes some interesting points about the statistics that Hillary used in this speech.
UPDATE 2: Scott Ott hilariously weighs in:
“I’m Pro-Chife,” she announced to the stunned crowd. “Being pro-chife means you support a woman’s right to end the life of a fetus that will never exist because the government will prevent the pregnancy.”
UPDATE 3: A reader pointed out some of the Google Ads that this blog entry has generated via content matching… check ‘em out. :-D
UPDATE 4: Ace of Spades weighs in with:
I don’t understand these politicians who take the “make abortions legal but rare” stance on the issue. That seems like a vain attempt to get on both sides of the issue. To me there are no such gray areas in this issue. Either you’re for abortions, or you’re against them. Either you believe that an abortion ends a life or you believe that it is no more than a procedure to remove some excess tissue from a woman’s body.
