“We Want a Funeral!” -ABC News

Posted by Eric at 9:48 pm. Filed under: General

This was found on ABC’s website by Captain Ed (who archived a copy of the page before ABC removed it, with a better archive here from Doc Weasel):

For a possible Inauguration Day story on ABC News, we are trying to find out if there any military funerals for Iraq war casualties scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 20.

If you know of a funeral and whether the family might be willing to talk to ABC News, please fill out the form below[.]

Powerline, Instapundit, LaShawn Barber, and more Captain’s Quarters are lighting a fire again under ABC.

Chief Justice Scalia?

Posted by Eric at 9:33 pm. Filed under: General

The guessing game continues.

Though he bravely overcame his illness to deliver the presidential oath of office at last week’s Inaugural, most court watchers assume that Chief Justice William Rehnquist’s cancer will soon force him to retire from the Supreme Court. Which means the guessing game is in full swing over which of the court’s sitting Justices is most likely to replace him. If he does not go outside for the job, President Bush will probably choose one of the court’s two most stalwart conservatives, Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas. Scalia seems to have the edge. “The idea of appointing the first African-American Chief Justice has undeniable appeal to the President,” says a top Republican who informally advises the White House on judicial nominations. “But there’d be a huge fight over Thomas, and the President doesn’t need a fight.” Though Scalia’s conservatism irks many Democrats, he was confirmed easily by the Senate in 1986, and would probably be confirmed again without too much trouble.

Nofollow Attribute

If you are getting killed by comment spam, you will want to see what Google, Microsoft and Yahoo have come up with. I’ve not yet figured out how to implement it with WordPress, but figured I would post the link anyway.

In the first cooperative move for nearly ten years, the major search engines have unveiled a new indexing command for web authors that they all recognize, one that they hope will help reduce the link and comment spam that plagues many web sites, especially those run by bloggers.

The new “nofollow” attribute that can be associated with links was originated as an idea by Google several weeks ago and pitched past MSN and Yahoo, as well as major blogging vendors, gaining support.

More explanation on Google’s Blog. This says WordPress has “signed on,” whatever that means, so hopefully the solution will be relatively easy for me to implement here at Blogsome.

Lots of buzz around the blogosphere.

Vote or Die.

Fanning the flames. See Gateway Pundit, Powerline, PoliPundit and Michelle Malkin.

Kelvin Ellis, a top administrator at East St. Louis City Hall, was indicted yesterday for plotting to kill a witness in the year long East St. Louis, Illinois federal vote fraud investigation.

Felons Voted

Posted by Eric at 4:49 pm. Filed under: General

From The Seattle Times:

The Times, reviewing felony convictions as far back as 1997, identified 129 felons in King and Pierce counties who were recorded as having voted in the Nov. 2 election. Another 23 likely voted.

“Coincidentally…”

The Times examined records from the state’s two largest counties and found a number of felon voters that coincidentally equals the 129-vote margin in the election. While their votes did not change the outcome — not all of them voted for Gregoire — the finding suggests that felons could have voted illegally throughout the state.

Bad Day.

Bummer.

Recalling the end of “Romeo and Juliet,” the 70-year-old man, Ettore, who had sat by his wife’s bedside for four months after she slipped into a coma following a heart attack, finally gave up hope and gassed himself in the garage of his family home.

Less than a day later, his wife, Rossana, woke up in her hospital bed in Padua and immediately asked for him.
