40 Million to Love.

Posted by Eric at 5:33 pm. Filed under: General

The sadness that occurs when considering the 46 million lives taken since the Supreme Court ruled on Roe v. Wade in 1973 is overwhelming. But one thing that I think has too often been overlooked in this discussion is the 40+ million women who are scarred, that desperately need our love.

This was succinctly pointed out on the Agape web log.

Here’s a round up of some other links.

And, of course, there are tons more, and LaShawn Barber has a great list of links.

PHC Defeats Oxford

Posted by Eric at 3:03 pm. Filed under: General

Ok, so I’m about a month late on this story, but it’s worth mentioning in case you haven’t seen it.

England’s Oxford University is widely known for producing some of the world’s best debaters, such as British Prime Ministers Margaret Thatcher and Tony Blair.

But last weekend, the school’s moot court team was defeated by two former home-schoolers from a small Virginia college named after American Revolution patriot and orator Patrick Henry.

Never heard of Patrick Henry College? They’ve got some interesting stuff going on:

Students in the Strategic Intelligence program study the techniques of intelligence gathering and analysis as well as the theory and practice of foreign policy. The program’s Intelligence Research and Analysis class involves gathering and analyzing data and working with professionals in the field. SI students are expected to complete at least one off-campus internship with a government intelligence agency or a private sector intelligence contractor.

Criticizing the President’s Address

Posted by Eric at 11:10 am. Filed under: General

Rush Limbaugh has some interesting quotes from the press regarding the President’s speech.

The Harrisburg Patriot and Union wrote: “We pass over the silly remarks of the President; for the credit of the nation we are willing that the veil of oblivion shall be dropped over them and that they shall no more be repeated or thought of.”

The Chicago Times: “The cheeks of every American must tingle with shame as he reads the silly, flat, and dishwatery utterance.”

The London Times: “[T]he ceremony was rendered ludicrous by some of the sallies of that poor President … Anything more dull and commonplace it would not be easy to produce.”

The Springfield Republican was surprised at how well [the president] did, though, noting: “We had grown so accustomed to homely and imperfect phrase in his productions that we had come to think it was the law of his utterance.”

Oh, by the way. Which president? Which speech?

Abraham Lincoln. Gettysburg Address.

[Does] [the] [reaction] [sound] [familiar]?

* Rush’s quotes were taken from Abraham Lincoln: The Prairie Years and The War Years, by Carl Sandburg

Update: Ace of Spades has an extensive roundup of reactions to the speech. And Scott Ott weighs in.
