More Thoughts on Drivers Licenses

Posted by Eric at 10:34 am. Filed under: General

Thinking a bit more about this… the real issue here is maybe a little deeper.

Sure, it sounds ominous that the driver’s license becomes a de facto government issued national id card that can be tracked by rfid and contains retinal scan identification.

But the real problem will be that if this type of thing ever gets implemented, and it does not solve identity theft problems, the only real solution will be something permanently attached to you.

Which is really scary.

High Tech Drivers Ed

New Technology Hopes to Help Teens Behind the Wheel:

What better way to teach kids how to drive then to put them in very realistic situations? So some 15-year olds are going to start learning to drive in cars with loud music, talking friends, and of course, a constantly ringing cell phone.

A ringing cell phone, what teen could resist, even while driving in heavy traffic? It’s a distraction that could lead to the most common accident — a rear end collision — a teen’s biggest driving mistake. But it’s not the only distraction.
With so many distractions to juggle, and very little driving experience, would teens be safer if they were taught to drive in the midst of constant chaos?

Welcome to the latest in technology aimed at doing just that. It looks like a glorified video game, but one that may save your kid’s life.

Creative idea. But still no substitute for experience.

Scary.

Would you trust your government with this?

Many of the law’s specifics have yet to be decided. Will licenses include biometric information like fingerprints or retinal scans? Will “machine-readable” mean bar codes or radio frequency identification systems — in which a tiny computer chip transmits data and can theoretically be used to track location?

Alveda Speaks

Posted by Eric at 8:28 am. Filed under: General

Alveda King, Dr. King’s neice, speaks to Newsweek. The most important issue facing African-American’s today? According to Alveda, it’s abortion.

What is the most pressing issue facing African-Americans today?

If we were in the 1990s, I would have said that school choice is the most pressing civil-rights issue. We’re now in the new millennium, and the battle for life, in my heart, has equal place. By that, I’m speaking of the pro-life movement. I am a member of a group called Silent No More, of mostly women who say they regret their abortion. I’m post-abortive so I know this, when we abort the child, we violate his or her rights, we as the mothers suffer tremendously, and our families suffer. I remember my children saying, “You killed our brother or our sister, how could you do that? Did you want to kill us, too?” My uncle said that “the Negro cannot win if he is willing to sacrifice the lives of his children for personal comfort and safety.” Now if you look at the issue of abortion, that’s immediately sacrificing the life of a child for personal comfort and safely.
